I feel like this blog is bringing out an angry side of me, but I'd like to do a public service for people by pointing out people who I hate, or in today's case, people who just kind of irritate me. Since there's no hatred, and actually a little sadness for these people, this will probably be a quick little post.
So I sign on Facebook, and since I'm on Facebook, I'm obviously bored, so I go through my "News Feed" to see if anybody has posted anything hilarious or worthwhile (it's rare, but it does happen on occasion). Instead I find this:
Stupid Person: Havin tha best time eva in Florida. Perfect weather, bet ur sooooo jealous in Iowa. :) Luv yall.
Now, what many of you are thinking is that the illiteracy of this message is what irritates me so much. And yes, you're right, this does bother me, but it's not the reason that this message stands out. If you are on vacation at a warm, sunny place, supposedly having a great time, why in the hell are you going on Facebook?
The sad truth is that people who brag about what a great time they're having aren't actually having that great of a time at all. They're bored, and they're hoping that someone will comment on their status, but they'd settle for someone merely "liking" their status. When I'm on my vacations, filled with times of drunken debauchery, Facebook is not on my mind...ever. I'm not the kind of guy who is taking a body shot off some thoroughbred dimepiece, and thinking, damn, I need to change my status to reflect how much fun I am having. I'm too busy making sure that I don't miss a drop of tequila.
So if you're having a great time, get lost in the moment and have a great time, Facebook will still be there when you get back.
